Of those, 52 were both low risk of bias and sufficient to support efficacy, and 16 of the 52 reported a significant difference in weight, ranging from 0.3 to 4.93 kg.
a 2021 meta-analysis in the International Journal of Obesity pooled 67 randomised placebo-controlled trials of isolated compounds. Three reached statistical significance and none reached the authors’ own 2.5 kg threshold for clinical significance.
a 2020 critical review of marketed natural weight-loss products reviewed the commonly marketed natural products in populations with obesity across a decade of literature.
Read together they set the ceiling for the category, and holding that ceiling in mind is what stops a good label from being mistaken for a good outcome.
